More FAQs

How do you get such small even stitches?
Practice, Practice Practice. But the needle size and diameter does make a huge difference. I have always used English needles. I don't know why they are so much better they just are.

What do you do to help take the soreness out of your fingers after quilting?
When I have been quilting I put Bag Balm on my quilting fingers just before falling asleep. I wake up the next day with no soreness! My mother used Gum Turpentine but my doctor said that is rather toxic so he suggested Bag Balm. I keep a small container of it on my headboard and use it on my lips at night too.

FAQ About Quilting

Why does my thread always knot on me.
Thread is directional. Regular thread you should tie the knot in the end you cut off the spool. Quilting thread goes through an extra process and you should always knot your thread before you cut it off the spool. By knotting the beginning of the thread once you have the needle on it you will always have the thread knotted at the correct end.

How much does it cost to have a custom made Quilt made? It is based on size, pattern, and number of hours it takes to complete. Most custom made quilts run from $1000 up. If you want a quilt for under $100 check out the quilts made overseas at most department stores and online.

Where can I learn to quilt?
At your local fabric store or Quilt shop. You might also check your local community center and school system for classes. And now there are several How to Quilt sites on the internet.
